Google Lighthouse

Google Lighthouse is an automated auditing tool that evaluates webpages for performance, accessibility, SEO and other technical quality checks.

What is Google Lighthouse?

Google Lighthouse is an automated website auditing tool from Google. It tests a webpage and reports issues across performance, accessibility, SEO and best practices. For B2B marketers, it can reveal technical problems on important landing pages before they affect campaigns or organic acquisition.

What does Google Lighthouse measure?

Lighthouse runs individual audits and combines applicable results into category scores. Its performance audit uses lab-based tests, while its SEO audit checks a limited set of technical fundamentals. It does not replace a complete technical SEO audit.

Performance findings can include metrics related to Core Web Vitals and diagnostics around JavaScript, images or render-blocking resources. Accessibility audits identify detectable issues such as missing labels or insufficient contrast.

Is a Lighthouse score a ranking factor?

No. A Lighthouse score itself is not a Google ranking factor. The SEO score also does not tell you whether a page will rank for its target keyword. Ranking depends on broader factors including relevance, content quality and whether the page satisfies search intent.

Treat the score as a diagnostic indicator. Improving it is useful when the underlying change creates a better visitor experience, not simply because the number increases.

How should B2B marketers use Lighthouse?

Audit pages that directly contribute to acquisition: service pages, campaign pages, high-traffic content and key conversion paths. Combine technical findings with conversion rate optimization rather than optimizing performance in isolation.

Prioritize recurring problems across important templates. Oversized assets or unnecessary scripts may affect multiple pages on a Webflow website, so fixing the shared cause can be more valuable than optimizing one URL.

Google Lighthouse vs PageSpeed Insights

Lighthouse provides the lab audit engine used by tools including PageSpeed Insights. PageSpeed Insights combines Lighthouse lab results with real-user Chrome data when field data is available, making it useful when performance is the primary concern.

Key takeaway

Use Google Lighthouse to identify technical website issues and prioritize meaningful improvements. For B2B teams, it works best as one QA tool within a broader B2B marketing website process, not as a score to optimize blindly.

More B2B. Less generic.
